The designs and costs of the city centre markets were presented to the Council’s Executive on 10th July 2018, who gave their approval to the £21 million project.

The Council is progressing plans to redevelop Kirkgate Market as a separate, non-food market in the Kirkgate Centre whilst at the same time developing  a ‘food focused’ market on Darley Street,

The proposed design of the new Kirkgate Market will be available soon and further developed throughout the rest of this year and into early 2019. At the same time the Council will arrange various stakeholder events to obtain the views of traders, shoppers and city centre businesses which can then be incorporated into the final designs.
