Local artists reignite community and culture back into city centre markets

Published on

Over the past few months, we have worked with local artists, Jean Mcewan and Chemaine Cooke from Wur Bradford on various projects that aim to create a sense of ambience and atmosphere in the markets.

Puppets in the market

During Halloween, Wur Bradford hosted a trick & treat trail and Halloween projections with a creative twist, engaging with traders in Kirkgate Market and members of the public. In December, Cecil Green Arts and Wur Bradford organised a puppet procession and a travelling shrine with items donated from the traders with their images.

Their visits were received very well by bother traders and the general public across both markets, we would be interested in working on similar projects in 2017. If you have any ideas and suggestions on what local artists can do for your market, please contact your Markets & Promotions Officer, Khansa Tufail on khansa.tufail@bradford.gov.uk.
